Deputy Education Minister offers medical treatment for victim and demands disciplinary report

Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, the Deputy Minister of Education, has instructed both the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the management of Adisadel College to provide a disciplinary report concerning the bullying incident captured in a viral video. The deadline for submitting the report is Thursday, July 27. The directive was issued after a crucial meeting between the Deputy Minister, GES, and Adisadel College's management on July 25.

To support the affected students' well-being as they prepare for their WASSCE exams, the Counseling Unit of the Ghana Education Service has been directed to offer psycho-social support, starting from July 26, 2023.

Furthermore, Rev. Ntim Fordjour has urged the Central Regional Education Directorate and the key staff of Adisadel College to cooperate with security agencies in conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.

The video, which surfaced on social media on Monday, caused widespread outrage and raised concerns about student safety within educational institutions in the country. In the video, an older student was seen physically assaulting a younger student while other students looked on and recorded the incident.

In response, the management of Adisadel College suspended the perpetrator, who is expected to sit for the WASSCE at the WAEC center. Meanwhile, the victim has also been suspended but will be allowed to write his exams on campus with parental escort. The victim received punishment for not reporting the incident.

The Ghana Education Service, in a subsequent press statement on Tuesday, commended Adisadel College's management for their swift action in suspending the culprit. The GES strongly condemned the violent act and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for all students across the nation.
