Residents in Berekum have been given a two-week deadline to relocate their goats from the area or face the possibility of them being slaughtered. This decree was issued by Nana Kosua Ameahene II, the Queen Mother of the Berekum Traditional Area, causing confusion among the community.
However, even before the ultimatum had expired, some residents had their goats seized by individuals claiming to be members of a palace task force responsible for implementing the ban. These individuals allegedly broke into enclosures to capture the goats. As a result, some elders from the Berekum Zongo community took action to restore the community's reputation, stating that the perpetrators were not representative of their community and were tarnishing its name.
A palace official confirmed that while the decree had not yet been enforced, residents still had two weeks to relocate their goats as per the queen mother's pronouncement. The official also clarified that no one was authorized to seize goats kept in enclosures, and it is possible that the individuals involved were preparing to remove the goats from the town.
