ECG urges customers to download PowerApp to pay bills

The Electricity Company of Ghana, Volta Region, is encouraging its customers to download the ECG PowerApp to settle their outstanding bills. This initiative is part of the ongoing mass revenue mobilization exercise called Operation Zero, aimed at increasing revenue and ensuring stable power supply.

The ECG PowerApp has been updated with useful features such as customer statements, bill viewing, and payment history. Customers with smart prepaid meters in the Volta Region can also view their consumption history through the app.

To facilitate the operation, the company is not accepting cash payments at its offices, and staff members are not authorized to accept cash during the Operation Zero exercise. Instead, customers are urged to use the ECG PowerApp or pay through the shortcode *226# to view and settle their bills.

The exercise covers all 11 districts in the Volta and Oti Regions, targeting both existing ECG customers and those consuming power but not registered in the ECG system. For customers not in the system or using power through illegal means, the company aims to regularize their supply and provide a flat rate. To encourage compliance, a moratorium has been offered to customers who are using power without paying or have faulty meters obtained from illegal sources.

As part of the operation, some companies, including the Zoomlion recycling plant and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), have been disconnected for non-payment of bills. The company emphasizes that disconnections are a last resort and are carried out to prevent customers from incurring further debt.

Furthermore, illegal connections have been identified during the Operation Zero exercise, and the company is taking appropriate measures to regularize and bill these supplies.

ECG commends customers who promptly pay their electricity bills and urges all customers to follow suit in contributing to the sustainable provision of power.
