John Dumelo, who used to be an actor and is now a politician, has shared his thoughts on the new law called the Narcotics Control Commission Bill, 2023. This law makes it legal to grow cannabis for medical and industrial reasons.
On Twitter, Mr. Dumelo described this decision as a significant moment in Ghana's history. He mentioned that he is a farmer and is excited to include cannabis cultivation in his various farming activities, such as growing ginger, tubers, grains, and raising poultry.
"I'm very excited that Parliament has passed the Narcotics Control Commission Amendment Bill 2023, which aims to make it legal to grow cannabis for medical and industrial purposes. This is a big moment for Ghana," Mr. Dumelo wrote.
He also added, "As a farmer, I'm definitely looking forward to including cannabis cultivation in my portfolio for medical and industrial purposes. God bless Ghana."
The passing of this law grants the Ministry of Interior the power to issue licenses for growing cannabis that contains less than 0.3% of the psychoactive substance THC, specifically for industrial or medical purposes. This happened in Parliament on Wednesday.
