During his campaign tour in Jirapa, in the Upper West Region, National Patriotic Party presidential candidate Ken Ohene Agyapong was seen in a video alongside former Ghana Football Association President, Kwesi Nyantakyi.
In the video, which was captured by Ghanaweb, Kwesi Nyantakyi, who is also a lawyer, introduced himself in his local dialect and endorsed Ken Agyapong as the best candidate to lead Ghana in the 2024 elections. He urged all candidates to vote for Agyapong on Saturday, November 4, 2023.
It's worth noting that Nyantakyi has been a longtime confidant of Ken Agyapong, who staunchly defended him when Nyantakyi was involved in investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas' exposé five years ago. In the exposé, Nyantakyi was alleged to have accepted cash gifts and engaged in influence peddling.
As a consequence of the exposé, Nyantakyi resigned as GFA President and lost his positions as FIFA Council Member and 1st Vice President of CAF. FIFA imposed a lifetime ban on him and fined him 500,000 Swiss Francs. He was also charged with conspiracy to commit fraud and corruption by a public officer, but was later granted bail with sureties.
However, Nyantakyi's lifetime ban was subsequently reduced to 15 years following an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) three years ago.
On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, Nyantakyi was in the company of Ken Ohene Agyapong when the latter filed his nomination form to contest for the NPP Presidential candidacy.
